Hospitalist

Recently a new specialty has emerged call hospitalist. Hospitalists are fully trained physicians, often times Internists or other adult medicine specialists, who spend their working hours in the hospital. They are available throughout the day or night for admissions and emergencies, and take care of patients the same way an Internist might, ordering treatments and tests and consulting with specialty physicians when appropriate. However once a patient is discharged, the patient’s care returns to their primary care physician or internist.
