Ultrasound

Ultrasound
Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to obtain images of the body’s internal organs. Many organs such as the heart, liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, thyroid gland, scrotum (testicles), uterus, ovaries and bladder can be examined using ultrasound. Ultrasound is also used extensively for prenatal exams to confirm that the placenta is healthy and that the baby is growing properly in the uterus. No x-rays or radiation are involved in ultrasound imaging. Studies have shown that ultrasound is not hazardous to your health.
At SWMC, we also use the ultrasound-guided breast needle biopsy with our mammotome machine for a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed in the comfort and convenience of our office environment.

NOTE: Before your ultrasound exam, be sure to check with your doctor for any special instructions regarding eating food or drinking water. Also, be sure to wear comfortable clothing for your ultrasound exam.
