Help for Haiti...Dr. Dan Snyder with his wife and son were in Haiti when the earthquake struck. Fortunately all are safe and are working with the Southwestern Medical Clinic Foundation to get help for Haiti in the most effective way. Dr. Snyder has been working in Haiti since 1996 and has been associated with Southwestern Medical Clinic since 2003.
All funds for the "Help for Haiti" project through the SWMC Foundation will go toward the Dessalines Rural Health Care Project and Kings Hospital relief efforts in Haiti. The entire amount of your donation will go directly toward relief efforts in Haiti. Click here for more information or to donate to Help for Haiti.
Dessalines Hospital is about 90 miles north of Port-au-Prince and is where Dr. Snyder primarily works when in Haiti. He also works with Kings Hospital in Port-au-Prince near the airport. Both hospitals are up and running but short on staff and supplies. Many of the injured are being transferred to Dessalines Hospital. The people of Haiti need your help.

Tenwek News...Southwestern Medical Clinic is sending a team of doctors to Tenwek Hospital in Kenya, Africa in 2010. We are helping to provide coverage so that the long-term missionary staff may attend an educational conference provided by the Christian Medical and Dental Association at Brackenhurst, Kenya. It will be a great opportunity for fellowship and spiritual renewal for those doctors participating.
The first group from SWMC will be staying at Tenwek for a month. It consists of three families: Drs. Dan and Suzanne Hayward, IM/FP (and their 4 boys), Dr. Sam Emerson, IM/Hospitalist and his wife Jennifer (with their 2 boys), and Dr. Chris Harvey, Pediatrics, and his wife Jana (along with their 3 girls). The second group will be staying at Tenwek for about 2 weeks. It consists of Dr. Mike Chupp, general surgeon (long-term missionary at Tenwek), Dr. Karen Zienert, OB-GYN, Dr. Jim Burczak (an orthopedic surgeon, from St. Joseph but not part of SWMC), Warren White, Administration, and his wife Marcy, and Tony Anderson (respiratory therapist from Lakeland). The teams would appreciate your prayers for ministering to the patients at Tenwek, safety as we travel, health for the team, that we will be a blessing to the long-term Tenwek missionaries, and ultimately that we will bring glory to God in all we say and do. Members from both teams will be available when they return to share their experience. Please contact Carolyn Philip at 269-471-1700 to schedule a time.
Southwestern Medical Clinic Foundation
The Southwestern Medical Clinic Foundation was created in 1995 as a non-profit organization with the express mission to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom through gathering and disbursing resources for medical related Christian missions.
Although there are many worthy and exciting opportunities for giving, the Southwestern Medical Foundation seeks to gather support for the types of programs mentioned below.
- Medical Education Projects: Educational loan repayment programs are available to potential career missionaries who would otherwise be unable to fulfill their dream of full time service.
- Fellowship Grants: The Foundation seeks to encourage future medical missionaries by providing grants to medical students, residents, or fellows interested in gaining clinical experience in the missions setting.
- Short Term Projects: The foundation facilitates both group and individual opportunities to serve verious mission fields. Group projects have proved valuable to the people served as well as providing:
- Spiritual enrichment
- Team-building
- Family bonding opportunities. One of our projects was assisting with medical missions in areas impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
Large and Small Capital Needs Projects: Funding is facilitated when requests for large or small capital expenditures are received. Some examples are :
- Entire hospital wings (Tenwek Hospital in Kenya is shown at right)
- Surgery suites
- High tech equipment
- Medicine procurement
- Transportation vehicles
- Many more
- Christian Support Ministries: Its mission is to recruit, train and support healthcare providers and Christian lay volunteers who minister, free of charge and in confidence, to the whole person in the healthcare environment. They work closely with the physicians, nurses and allied health professionals to provide spiritual and emotional support to the physically ill.
- General Fund Grants:The Foundation seeks to be a conduit for like-minded Christian individuals or groups who wish to support specific large and small capital projects or just want to contribute to the other involvements of the Foundation, such as in Christian Family camps, Child Evangelism, Chaplaincy programs, Pregnancy Care, or the Christian Medical and Dental Association endeavors.
We appreciate your gifts and donations in support of our work through the Southwestern Medical Clinic.
